Chromagen solar water heaters use the sun’s unlimited FREE energy to provide up to 80 - 90% of your hot water.
When these savings are combined with either State rebates, or the Federal Government initiated Renewable Energy Certificates Scheme, a Chromagen solar hot water system is the obvious economical choice.
Hot Water Tanks
Chromagen's selection of hot water tanks are technologically advanced for maximum efficiency, durability and safety. They come in 200 and 300 litres ensuring a plentiful supply of piping hot waterfor the whole family. Horizontal on-roof locations or vertical ground-mounted solutions are available to satisfy your particular needs and conditions.
1. Sacrificial Anode
For superior protection against corrosion.
2. Built-In Thermostat
For convenience and safety.
3. External Coating
The extremely durable baked polyester outercasing is designed to withstand the harshest of conditions. It’s as tough as the outside of your house.
4. Polyurethane Insulation

Collectors
In satisfying the most rigid requirements of European markets, where the sun is not as strong as in Australia, there are simply no better collectors available than Chromagen’s highly efficient solar panels. We offer the most advanced technology and superior design ensuring maximum sun absorption and efficiency that outperforms other collectors. Quality materials and unique manufacturing techniques ensure a durable product that will pay for itself many times over.
Our wide range of solar collectors allows tailored cost-effective hot water solutions for a wide variety of locations and climatic conditions. From Tasmania to the Top End, we’ve got Australia covered. The aesthetic designs, engineered for strength and optimal performance, ensure maximum benefits from the Chromagen system of your choice.
1. Absorber Plate
Copper fins ultrasonically welded to copper tubes provide maximum contact and excellent heat transfer resulting in a very highly efficient absorption rate of 95%. All copper construction means longer life and is far superior to aluminium and steel used by some other manufacturers.
2. Absorber Plate Coating
Available in black chrome or selective solar paint, these high performance solar absorption surfaces, when combined with the superior all-copper construction, results in the most highly efficient solar collector panels available. Their performance is unsurpassed, even in cooler climates or cloudy conditions.
3. Solar Glass - 3.2mm thick
The solar glass is patterned to reduce reflection and maximise solar transmittance to the absorber plate. It is tempered and thicker than others to maximise strength and durability in severe weather conditions like hail storms.
4. Tough Outer Case
The extremely durable baked polyester outer casing is designed to withstand the harshest of conditions. It’s as tough as the outside of your house. The underside is made of polypropylene to prevent the possibility of corrosion through incompatible metal contact between roofing material and casing.

Thermosiphon Systems
Thermosiphon systems call on Mother Natureto circulate water through the solar collectors to the storage tank using the thermosiphon principle that hot water rises naturally, hence eliminating theneed for circulating pumps or other moving parts. Chromagen's thermosiphon systems are the most straight forward, economically viable and energy efficient designs available. A gas or electric backup booster provides energy during cloudy weather, so you can have plenty of hot water when you need it.
The thermosiphon system includes:
Tank sizes vary from 200 to 300 litres so there’s a size to suit your particular needs. Depending on your location and climate you may choose an Open-Loop or Closed-Loop system.
Open-Loop System - Suitable for warm climates
In Open-Loop Systems the water circulates through the solar collectors and is heated directly by the sun. These systems are suitable for climates that are mostly frost-free and have good water quality.
Closed-Loop System - Suitable for cooler climates
Closed loop systems utilise a heat exchanger to heat the water indirectly with the sun. They are particularly useful in frost prone areas and areas with poor water quality.
Forced Circulation Systems
Sometimes known as pumped, split or forced circulation, these systems typically have the storage tank separated from the solar collectors, with the tank located at ground level and the collectors on the roof.
Individual homes
A pump and control unit are utilised to ensure correct water circulation. This allows the collectors to be situated away from the tank. For example, the tank may be situated in a basement while the collectors remain on the roof.
Unlike uncontrolled thermosiphon systems, there is no chance of wasting water from overheating because the solar controller automatically stops the water circulating once the storage tank is full of hot water. It also has inbuilt frost protection for marginal frost areas.
Freezing and hard water protection
Although Chromagen open loop systems haveinbuilt freeze protection for marginal frost areas, in locations where severe frosts or snow can occur, or where hard water supplies are prevalent, a Chromagen closed loop model should be installed. In this unique design, the solar collector panels are connected to a highly efficient heat exchanger inside the storage tank. The closed loop is filled with aspecial heat transfer fluid that won’t freeze and only the highly durable tank is exposed to the hard water supply.
Apartment houses
Chromagen has developed a unique solution for apartment houses to ensure hot water around the clock. Each apartment hasan individual tank with all the tanks connected to a central collector cluster. A pump ensures continuous water circulation of hot water to each apartment.
