50 kVA FGW Generator Reliable Power Upgrade
for a Regional Water Service

Project Overview

Macfarlane Generators was engaged to replace an aging 50 kVA FGW generator at a regional water service site. The existing unit, installed in 1999, had reached 25 years of service — exceeding the client’s plant age policy.

Client Requirement

The existing generator was beyond its operational life and required safe removal and disposal. Integration with the site’s SCADA monitoring system was essential for remote operation and monitoring.

Solutions

Key aspects of the solution included:

  • Replacement of the 50 kVA FGW generator with a new, fully compliant unit.

  • Exhaust system upgrade: installed a lagged, insulated silencer to improve internal room heat management.

  • Safety enhancements: external spark arrestor and touch guards.

  • Control system modernization: upgraded to Modbus communications, enabling full integration with the site’s SCADA system.

Results

This project highlights Macfarlane Generators ability to deliver end-to-end power solutions for critical infrastructure, combining equipment replacement, system upgrades, and digital integration.
